Essential oils should be used with caution around children. Essential oils high in menthol and/or 1,8-cineole – Eucalyptus and Peppermint, for example – should be used with care around children aged six and under. The cooling sensation these oils provide can slow respiration, or even stop it. These oils should never be used on or around the face.
Not all children will have a negative reaction when inhaling Eucalyptus or Peppermint, but since results vary from child to child, the warning must be given.
Always treat essential oils as you would any other powerful medicine and keep them out of the reach of children.
