Lemon water - without the essential oils!

So it’s possible to flavor water without using essential oils? YES!

This is the way people have been flavoring water for centuries…and they were right. Adding fruit to your water is a great way to stay hydrated while ingesting vitamins and other nutrients our bodies need.

Essential oils do not contain vitamins, or any other nutrients. Because they are concentrated, they are pretty harsh on the mucous membranes. When you add them to the water, they float on the top (oil and water don’t mix!), hitting the inside of your mouth, throat, and esophagus, at full concentration. If you do this you are probably going to feel irritation and/or burning. Long-term consumption of essential oils like this use increases your risk developing ulcers, permanent damage to your esophagus, and liver distress or failure.

Let me remind you that lemons are awesome all by themselves! When you use real, organic lemons you avoid the pesticides and gain the benefit of the lemon juice that is not present in the essential oil (made from pressing the rinds, pesticides and all). Lemon juice is great for cleansing the liver, and Vitamin C doesn’t hurt, either ;)

I am sure you can figure out how to do this, but just for fun, this is how I prepare and freeze my lemon quarters for dropping into my water…

First, slice the lemons, then quarter them.

Then place them in a snack-sized baggy. Seal and freeze.

Break off a lemon slice quarter and plop in your water.

The flavor will get stronger as the lemon melts. I use the same lemon all day, replacing it the next. Works great :D

I drink my lemon water in this glass water bottle or a mason jar with a handle, as shown in the photo at the top of the page.
